WECNY was founded by a diverse group of women who identified the need for an organization focused on advancing women executives and bridging the gap between women and men in the boardroom. We see New York as the venue for this new paradigm.

We began to measure this progress with our census, 2007 New York Census: The State of Women Business Leaders in New York State, the first of an annual series of census studies to be published on the state of women in corporate executive positions of New York's top 100 public companies. We followed up this report with a census in February 2010 and our most recent report, 2011 New York Census: The State of Women Business Leaders in New York State, was released in October 2011. The 2011 census compares its findings to our previous two census studies, and as the third census in our series, it tracks the changes in female representation over the past five years.
